A Chance to Start Over

As you come back to school this year, think about what's most important to you this year...set a few goals for yourself (spiritual, educational, social, etc.). Every time you start a new year, it's a chance to start over again. What's in the past is in the past.

And that's the way it is with God as well...one of the things that amazes me is how many times I fail. I struggle with sin. I wrestle with it. And sometimes, too many times, I give in to it. And despite that sin, every time that I confess my sin to God, he forgives me and wipes my slate clean. It's a chance to start over again. What's in the past is in the past.

Starting over is sometimes a relief. I think of every New Year's when so many people set resolutions...about half of them seem to have something to do with their health and their fitness. That's why fitness clubs are packed in January, but if you regularly attend these clubs you know that most people don't follow through with their resolutions/goals. They fail. And one day they'll try it again, they'll set a new goal. Maybe at the beginning of the next year. I know I've done that.

But then there's the other goals: one's we set and actually accomplish. Doesn't it feel great to accomplish goals. Especially when the goals stretch ourselves a bit. So what things are you going to try to accomplish this school year...here's a few of my goals:
1) To graduate from Seminary and become ordained as a pastor
2) To pour more energy into this acts64 college ministry than I ever have before
3) To establish a daily pattern where I am in prayer and ministry of the Word (I haven't always been the best at this)
4) To lose 15 pounds (already lost 3!)and train for a half-marathon sometime next year before April.

So what are your goals?
